Otago Boxing Prize Giving - 27th November, 2011

We had the Otago Boxing Prize Giving on Sunday at the St Kilda Tavern.

The Academy did well and won quite a few awards which is great for the coaches and the gym, but more importantly for the boxers themselves. They have all worked very hard this year putting in a lot of training hours and getting as many fights under their belts as they could.

All though they may not have won every fight, they have all improved greatly with each tournament and grown from novice boxers to become very skilled boxers. Collectively they clocked up more                    Bridget Morton (Red) vs Lloyd Skully (Blue) - Nationals 2011
than
35 Fights, which is not bad given the small number of boxers we had competing this year.

The Academy would like to congratulate the following members for all their hard work and dedication to the Sport and the Academy.

Thomas Bennet
Chelsea McKellar
Kem Christensen
Shade Darroch
Sam Beck
Bridget Morton
Cherine Henry

The Academy and Boxers received the following awards at the Otago Prize Giving 2011;

Shade Darroch  - Best Cadet
Sam Beck            - Junior Boxer Of The Year
Ben Fraser          - Trinder Trophy (Best Boxer Fighter)
Cherine Henry  - Senior Boxer Of The Year And Best Female Award
NZ Fight And Fitness (Ryan Henry & Eldon Clifton)
- Trainers Shield

Entry Date: 30th November, 2011

Boxing National Results: 27th - 30th Ocober 2011

Many may have read Ryan's Blog and already know the results from the NZ Boxing Nationals. Sam Beck, Bridget Morton and Cherine Henry who were all chosen from the Academy to represent
Otago                            Otago Team And Otago Coaches - Nationals 2011
at the
NZ Boxing Nationals, unfortunately never made it past their Semi-finals.
All three gave a great performance and did well considering they had never experienced a tournament of this calibre. They have all learnt a lot and as their coach I can already see how it has changed their boxing. They can't wait to get back into it next year and help all the new guys coming through.

Academy Boxers Who Represented the Academy And Won The Titles In Their Divisions;
Shade Darroch (Bet Isaac Scott)

We had 5 fighters represent the Academy at the Gore Tournament, and came away with 1 Win. Not the best winning tournament for the Academy but very close fights. Cherine Henry and Tom Bennet both lost their fights by only 1                                     Winner Shade Darroch (Red) vs Isaac Scott Blue
point,
Bridget by only 3 points and Sam who fort a very experienced and skilled boxer gave it everything but never got the win.

Shade Darroch fort his opponent for a third time and won, well done boy, 3 fights this year and 3 wins, undefeated record, nice. The funny thing about that fight was he was sick the night before and that day vomiting, but he didn't quit and went on to win his fight. You have a very big future in boxing.
